To Start, What Is Bone Grafting?

Bone grafting has been around for a long time. This surgical procedure transplants healthy bone to repair diseased or damaged bone. But the traditional way to graft bone requires a substantial invasion of the body to appropriately graft the transplanted healthy bone onto the region in question.

Specifically, bone grafting is a procedure that can help replace any missing jaw tissue caused by damage or trauma. When damage occurs to cause jaw tissue loss, the natural bone will not grow back, but will continue to take in nutrients even without the presence of any teeth. The bone grafting procedure involves lifting the sinus membranes that are found toward the upper back part of the jawline and placing bone grafts underneath.

The bone grafting procedure begins with the grafting or transplantation, of bone tissue from either a donor source (allograft) or another part of your body (autograph). This procedure can be a great way to way to provide a solid foundation for any desired cosmetic or corrective procedures, such as dental implants. This way, you will be able to see the best results regardless of the amount of bone tissue present at the beginning.

What S.M.A.R.T. Bone Grafting Does:

That is where S.M.A.R.T. bone grafting makes a real difference. S.M.A.R.T. is an acronym meaning Subperiosteal (or beneath the soft tissue) Minimally invasive Aesthetic Ridge augmentation Technique. This method was created as a less painful and more precise way to perform bone grafting as compared to traditional methods.

S.M.A.R.T. does this by focusing on the directly affected areas versus previous approaches. How this is done is through a method of bone grafting known as tunneling which allows for fewer, more focused incisions to allow for the graft to be performed. This is because when using S.M.A.R.T. is there is no need for flap elevation, tenting screws, and/or membranes. This allows for less work which leads to the greater possibility of the desired result after one attempt!

Put Your Trust In S.M.A.R.T!

What makes S.M.A.R.T. such a smart choice is the required training to use the equipment and how to effectively do the procedure. This training has been undertaken by our very own Dr. A.
